Antique Red Transferware Beehive Cup

This very rare antique red transferware handleless cup dates to the early 19th century, circa 1830s, and features a striking beehive design rendered in bold red transferware. Pieces from this early period are increasingly difficult to find, especially in such strong graphic condition.

The cup is handleless, a form typical of early English ceramics, and measures approximately 3½ inches in diameter by 2½ inches tall. Based on form, color, and decoration, this piece appears to be English Staffordshire, and may have been produced by Ridgway, though it is unmarked.

The design remains crisp and vibrant, with excellent color saturation and well-preserved details, making it a standout display piece for a transferware collection, early Staffordshire display, or museum-style shelf.

Condition Notes:
Considering its age of nearly 200 years, this cup is in good antique condition. There is crazing throughout, expected for early transferware. The rim has a rough texture, shown clearly in the photos. Inside the cup, there is a manufacturing flaw with an unusual wrinkled appearance, likely from the firing process. These characteristics are consistent with early 19th-century production and do not detract from its strong visual presence. No cracks or later repairs observed. Due to age and condition, this piece is offered as a display or study example and is not recommended for functional use.
