Civil War Era Adaptive Utensils – J. Curley & Brother New York – Rare One-Armed Knife & Fork Combination
An exceptionally rare pair of antique adaptive utensils designed for one-armed use, likely dating to the Civil War era. These historic pieces combine a fork and a curved knife blade in one, allowing the user to cut and eat with a single hand. Both are stamped J. Curley & Brother, New York in an oval mark, a notable maker of specialized and adaptive tools in the 19th century.
This set includes two utensils:
-One with a black handle – in good condition with light wear
-One with a grey handle – shows extensive wear with nicks along the metal blade from years of use.
The handles have developed a beautiful aged patina, and the craftsmanship is a testament to the ingenuity of the period. Each measures approximately 9 inches long.
